Saturday 12th december, update from actions :
From the assembly at Belleville :
6:40 PM : There is no one left in the kettle.
6:15 PM : Marseille street is full with vans of CRS and civil cops. In the other side of the canal, there is a lot of cops also. 100 to 150 people are actually kettled near the quai of Jemmapes.
6:00 PM : Demonstrators are stucked in a kettle. Cops are chasing militants. Hundreds of vans on the quai de Jemmapes.
5:50 PM : Demonstrators trying to reach Jaurès, but cops stuck the way. They are 150 people, Quai Jemmapes right now.
5h45 PM : After trying a kettle, demonstetors are getting away in the Saint Louis Hospital. They reach the other side, on Grange aux Belles street.
5:15 PM : With the sound of a battucada, hundreads people are making a festive demonstration through Colonel Fabien street.
5:00 PM : Near Belleville underground station, where a meeting against COP21 is planned, a big police dispositif is already all around. Hundreds of people are gathering.
From the actions at Charles-de-Gaulle-Etoile and Champ-de-Mars :
4:30 PM : The atmosphere is quite relax and speeches are going on. Other actions are planned elsewhere...
4:00 PM : At Champ-de-Mars speechs are going on. Someone from Alternatiba denonces the fossil fuel extraction and the the use of nuclear energy. Therefore, he dissociates from actions that he defines as « violent » and he continues his speech on social and solidarity economy...
3:45 PM : A few arrests and controls hve taken place during the actions of the day, some have been released immediately. It seems that a little group have been taked by the police.
3:00 PM : Between 10 000 and 20 000 protesters are in Champ-de-Mars making an human chain and listening to concert. Some of them are inside the place, some other are waiting outside blocked by police who refuse to let people get in without searching bags.
2:40 PM : Demonstrators are arriving at the Eiffel Tower, where an action is planned by Alternatiba. Currently, a sitting is going on Iéna bridge.
2:00 PM : Thousands of people have continued to protest up to the Avenue de la Grande Armée, where the Red Lines action took place. A thousand protestors have continued, and are joyously arriving at the Trocadero, to the sound of fanfares and bands. The idea seems to be to rejoin the other protesters at the Eiffel Tower.
1:50 PM : Thousands of people have followed the demonstration. At the moment they are walking up avenue Raymond-Poincaré.
1:40 PM : Some protesters take the avenue Malakoff. After negotiation with cops, they can pass and start the demonstration. The slogans are « Anticapitalist » and « Climate Justice ».
1:30 PM : The protesters have moved towards Porte Maillot, which is completely surrounded by cops. The cops cordons block the access to the ring road.
1:00 PM : A helicopter is surveying the area. All the side streets are closed by the cops, who are positioned outside their vans. The atmosphere remains festive.
12:40 AM : On the Avenue de la Grande Armée, many thousands of people have arrived for the red lines action. There are many cops, but at the moment they are staying at the side and searching bags. Charles de Gaulle Etoile metro is closed.
Saturday 12th December : Big day of action !
During the day of mobilisation the 12th of December, several different actions are taking place, each one spearheaded by member organisations of the Coalition Climat 21, and each carried out according to their specifics terms of expression/action.
- 9:30 AM : « Climate Justice for Peace » at the initiative of Friends of the Earth, of CCFD-Terre solidaire and of Peuples Solidaires. This action involves a never-before-seen mass mobilisation in which multiple small teams will throw themselves into a conquest of the streets of Paris, to write, through geolocalisation, the message « Climate Justice for Peace »,
- 12:00 AM : Symbolic action Red Lines at the initiative of
350.org, Attac, CJA, Réseau-Ipam, Reclaim the Power et Réseau Sortir du
Nucléaire. It involves paying hommage to the victims of global warming. This action, which will take place in a symbolic location in Paris, will also point out the culprits of climate change, those who continue to block large-scale public progess on the climate question. http://350.org/fr/d12/
- 2:00 PM : a peaceful and determined mass gathering, to declare a state of climate emergency, at the Champ de Mars, in front of the Eiffel tower, at the l’initiative of Alternatiba, Friends of the Earth France, Action Non-Violente-COP21, Attac, Bizi, Emmaüs Lescar Pau, End Ecocide on
Earth, CANVA, Confédération Paysanne, Coordination Pas Sans Nous, Mouvement pour une Alternative Non-Violente, UNEF. Huge human chains will carry the message of alert and mobilisation addressed to the people of the world.
- 5:00 PM : A caal for action not signed have been launched for today by some people of the anticop21’s General Assembly. Meeting at 5:00 PM at Belleville.
